If you were in the vicinity of Hayden and Thomas Road last night you probably saw at least one of the 50 friends or family members of victim Daniel Pollack papering the streets and local businesses with flyers pleading for leads in this tragic death. 1,000 flyers were to be distributed amongst the areas of the intersection and Old Town Scottsdale in hopes of finding someone who saw the silver pick-up truck that crashed into Pollack and kept on going, not even slowing down. A family friend, Jack Stein, was quoted as saying “We want to get everybody talking about this thing and get it out there as much as we can…My hope is that we catch the attention of somebody driving by that may have been there…” Daniel was 31 when he was pronounced dead at the hospital just a week ago today.
The statistics of hit and run accidents in Arizona are staggering. At least three people die each month in Arizona due to hit and run accidents. Nationally, hit and run accidents kill nearly 1,500 people each year and sadly, among all of the states Arizona ranks 3rd in highest percentage of hit and run fatalities. Arizona hit and run drivers kill almost twice as many people compared to the national average. Tragically, many hit and run cases go unsolved leaving the victim’s families with little closure. The Pollack family hopes that the $52,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver will encourage witnesses to step forward and call the Scottsdale Police Department at 480-312-5000. However, if you have information and would like to remain anonymous you can call the Silent Witness hotline at either 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO.
